In the first episode of the Top Human podcast, host Andre (that’s me) interviews Alden about his journey of self-discovery and learning about human energy. We discuss practical ways to work with our own energy, dissolve emotional weight, and overcome limiting beliefs, without all the “woowoo” and fake stuff out there. In this blog post, I’ll summarize our conversation and highlight the key takeaways.

Self-Energy Discovery

I start with sharing how I got into self-energy work when I was in a bad mental state due to my attachment to a girl in college. Despite trying to shift my attention and distract himself, I simply couldn’t stop thinking about her. Talking to therapists and coaches didn’t help, so I turned to meditation as the tool to get me out of this mental rut.

Shortly after that, and after I had onboarded a ton of stress from helping take care of my dad post-brain-surgery, I realized I was carrying a toxic feeling in the center of my chest like a black hole. I decided to work on this via mediation. One day I completely embraced that feeling, letting myself fall deep into it… and then I felt a little tingly sensation that shifted and dissolved the feeling. After repeating that process day after day, the toxic feeling went away, and eventually, it wasn’t part of my life anymore.

That physical sensation was the beginning of my journey of dissolving emotional weight, and then I moved onto limiting beliefs. I could literally feel them dissolve and fizzle away with this work. After a couple years of this, I realized I was moving energy with my mind, using my awareness and certain muscle activations to do these “Jedi mind tricks” in my head. This really began to open the door to other things and really blew my mind.

Discussing Human Energy

Alden and I discuss how human energy is a real and tangible thing, even though it’s not always visible or measurable with traditional scientific methods. Alden emphasizes the importance of listening to our body’s signals, such as tension, discomfort, or pain, as clues to where we hold emotional weight. Alden also stresses the value of being patient and gentle with ourselves, as we learn to work with our own energy.

Some practical tips that Alden shares for working with our own energy include:

  • Paying attention to our breath and body sensations, especially when we feel triggered or stressed.
  • Asking ourselves open-ended questions, such as “What am I feeling right now?” or “What do I need right now?”
  • Experimenting with different styles of meditation or movement, such as yoga or qigong, to find what works best for us.
  • Using visualization or imagery to direct our energy flow, such as imagining a warm light or a cool breeze flowing through our body.

Limiting Beliefs

Alden and I also touch on limiting beliefs, which are negative or self-sabotaging thoughts that hold us back from our full potential. We discuss how limiting beliefs are often rooted in our past experiences, and how we can use self-energy work to release them and create new empowering beliefs.

Overall, this podcast episode offers a refreshing and practical approach to human energy and self-energy work. It shows how we can use our own awareness and intention to dissolve emotional weight and limiting beliefs, and how this work can lead to greater clarity, creativity, and fulfillment in our lives.
