In today’s fast-paced world, it’s easy to lose touch with our humanness. The pressures of society and the advances in technology can lead us to become disconnected from our true selves. This happened to me for sure as I was growing up and leaning into a tech-focused career and lifestyle.
To thrive in 2023, we need to revisit the deepest core of what it means to be human: our energy and nervous system. By embracing our energy, releasing trapped emotions, and connecting with our intuition, we can become the best versions of ourselves. For most of my life, I was living too much in my head, acting unintuitively, and out of touch with my emotions. Now, a lot of that has changed as I’ve been doing the work.
This blog post will explore these topics and provide some guidance on how to cultivate a more fulfilling, authentic life.
Understanding the Core of the Human Animal: Energy and the Nervous System
Our nervous system is the foundation of our physical bodies. It is responsible for our thoughts, emotions, and bodily functions. Our energy, on the other hand, refers to the life force that flows through us, connecting us to the world around us. Both our nervous system and our energy are interconnected, and understanding their relationship is essential to achieving balance and harmony in our lives.
As I was researching online to fix my nervous system issues – for example, I realized I was in a “sympathetic dominance” state – more and more things and experiences also pointed me to the energy side of things. After all, energy is what runs through our nervous system.
Our nervous system is like the hardware wires of a computer, while our energy is the electrons that runs on it. Both need to be in optimal condition for us to function at our best.
- To maintain our nervous system’s health, we should prioritize self-care activities such as proper nutrition, regular exercise, sufficient sleep, better posture, and more.
- To maintain our energy’s health, we should begin habits that keep our body’s energy clean and release the stress that it stores.
Embracing Our Energy: Letting it Flow Freely
To live a fulfilling life, we must learn to embrace our energy rather than bottling it up. When we suppress our emotions, we trap our energy within us, leading to mental, emotional, and physical distress. This can result in negative consequences, such as increased stress, anxiety, and a weakened immune system.
As my body’s energy got more and more bottled up, toxic, etc, after some specific events in my life, my body had more and more symptoms of physical issues. For example I began to stutter, I had chronic pain, sexual issues, muscles became tight and I had a lot of inflammation building up. All because of the energy bottling up I did.
To release trapped energy, we should practice techniques that help us express our emotions authentically. These can include crying, screaming, sprinting, or engaging in creative pursuits like painting or writing. By giving ourselves permission to feel and express our emotions, we allow our energy to flow freely, leading to improved mental and emotional well-being.
Releasing Toxic and Stuck Energy: Cleansing Our Mindsets
Over time, our thoughts and beliefs can become ingrained and limit our potential. These limiting beliefs are fueled by toxic energy that hinders our growth and prevents us from becoming the best version of ourselves. To release this toxic energy, we need to physically remove it from our bodies and nervous systems. Think of it like water running through clogged pipes.
One effective way to cleanse our mindset is through energy-based meditation. By practicing meditation, we can learn to physically move and unstick the energy that drives our negative thoughts, making it easier to identify and let go of limiting beliefs. Another approach is to engage in self-reflection and ask ourselves probing questions about our assumptions and beliefs. By examining our thoughts critically, we can gain a better understanding of their origins and determine whether they still serve us.
After trying all sorts of ways to change my mindset, the energy moving meditations was really the best, most reliable, approach. I could do it anytime, anywhere, and it was simple. I got very good at being able to unstick energy from my mind, nervous system, and body. When you sit down to practice, something will automatically come up…you just have to listen for it. With that approach, you can reduce a looooot of the noise in our heads. And then you can start targeting specific thoughts and beliefs – at least that’s how my journey went. And even after that, I realized my body itself was holding back my mindset. But I’ll save that for another post…
Another powerful way to release toxic energy is through physical movement. Activities like yoga, tai chi, or dance can help to unlock stuck energy and promote overall well-being. These practices not only support our physical health but also contribute to a clearer, more positive mindset.
Connecting with Our Intuition: Becoming the Best Versions of Ourselves
Our intuition is a powerful inner guidance system that can help us make better decisions and lead more fulfilling lives. It is the innate wisdom that resides within each of us, and by connecting with it, we can access our true potential. To cultivate a deeper connection with our intuition, we can practice the following:
- Develop self-awareness: To recognize our intuition’s subtle signals, we must first be aware of our thoughts, feelings, and bodily sensations.
- Cultivate stillness: In our busy lives, it can be challenging to hear our inner voice amidst the noise. By creating moments of stillness through meditation or spending time in nature, we can better tune in to our intuition.
- Trust your gut feelings: Our intuition often communicates through gut feelings or physical sensations. When faced with a decision, pay attention to how your body reacts and trust that your intuition is guiding you in the right direction.
- Practice active listening: When engaging with others, practice listening with an open mind and heart. This will help you develop empathy and strengthen your intuitive abilities.
- Keep a journal: Recording your thoughts, feelings, and intuitive insights can help you recognize patterns and develop a better understanding of your intuition. Review your journal entries regularly to see how your intuition has guided you in the past and to build trust in its wisdom.
- Be patient and persistent: Connecting with your intuition takes time and practice. Don’t be discouraged if it doesn’t happen overnight. Be patient with yourself and commit to the process of developing your intuitive abilities.
At least, that’s how I started. Feeling distant from our intuition comes from too many other voices in our minds. And those voices come from our past. Past people, past lessons, past beliefs. We let go of the past by releasing the energy that’s driving those thought patterns. When I finally realized this and started doing the work is FINALLY when my mind and my life started to change.
Conclusion
Being human in 2023 means learning and embracing the core of who we are – our energy and nervous system – and learning to heal them into the healthiest versions of themselves.
By allowing our energy to flow freely, releasing toxic and stuck energy, and connecting with our intuition, we can become the best versions of ourselves.
By nurturing these aspects of our humanity, we can create a more fulfilling and authentic life, not just in 2023 but for years to come. So, take a step back from the hustle and bustle of modern life, and invest time in cultivating your inner world. The rewards will be well worth the effort.
